WHAT MAKES NT VINYL REPLACEMENT WINDOWS
BETTER THAN THE REST?
Here is what almost no one else will ever tell you about vinyl replacement windows - the most expensive window and the cheapest one on the market have almost identical energy efficiency. ALL vinyl windows are super energy efficient. But here is where the difference comes in - a few brands, like our NT Window are heavier made and are reinforced in critical places with thick metal. Read more about the critical differences in NT Windows versus most of the other windows offered for sale in East Texas, further down this page.
DURABILITY OF VINYL WINDOWS IS THE CRITICAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BRANDS. The heavy duty windows we install will outlast almost any vinyl window on the market in terms of performance.
Our replacement windows are made by NT Window (NT as in “North Texas”) out of Ft. Worth. They have been our supplier since 2008. We stick with NT because they offer extremely high quality windows at an affordable price – backed by exceptional service.
Two series of windows are available - the NT Executive and the NT Presidential. The two are essentially the same window. The only difference is that the Executive has a beveled shaped frame on the outside, while the Presidential has a more rounded “brick mould” style, exterior frame shape.
Most of the time, the Executive offers everything the homeowner asks for, and more. We do have to step up to the Presidential, to be offered certain options, such as a Sandstone frame color, or painted frames in black, bronze, or about 8 other colors. The energy rating and warranty of the two windows is essentially the same. And all NT Windows are made in the same factory in Ft. Worth, Texas. Only their crank out casements are made elsewhere. The warranty is identical on the Executive and the Presidential series. In fact, it is the same piece of paper !
Double pane windows are the norm but some window companies are telling homeowners they need triple pane windows. If you want that, we can provide it, but we personally feel that it is overkill in East Texas. Our double pane glass reflects most of the heat and 95% of the UV rays, which fade your drapes, floors and furniture. I would recommend triple pane if we had snow-drifts or snow banks stacked up against our windows in the winter - but I've lived here all my life and have never seen that happen, even once, in East Texas.

NT Windows can be ordered as DOUBLE HUNG (meaning that both the top and bottom sashes raise and lower and easily tilt in for cleaning) or they may be ordered as SINGLE HUNG (meaning only the bottom raises, lowers and tilts in for easy cleaning). Horizontal sliding or fixed "picture windows" (which means they do not open) are also available. Special shape windows are available as well.
Single hung windows are more energy efficient than double hung windows, because they only allow half as much air to leak into and out of the house as a double hung window does. Double hungs leak at least twice as much air as single hungs simply because the top sash is a movable sash. Single hungs are also more secure (harder to break into), because they have a center bar. Double hungs have no center bar, in order to allow both the top and bottom panels to slide up and down.
All NT brand windows automatically include Low E 3 (high performance glass), and argon gas inside the trapped airspace, for extreme energy efficiency. Single hungs and double hungs automatically include their easy tilt-to-clean feature. Any NT window that opens comes automatically with a half screen.
The Executive comes in white or almond color. The Presidential comes in white, almond, or sandstone color, but you can upgrade the exterior of the window to that factory painted finish we mentioned earlier, if you like. Black or bronze or any of the other colors of paint on the exterior, will add about $200 per window. Only the black paint option is available on the inside as well as the outside, for another add-on cost.
You can get your new windows with “grids” or “grilles” or “panes”, as many people call them. Several styles of “grids” are available, all of which involve some additional cost.

Both the NT Executive and Presidential windows also automatically come with all of the features detailed below:
Heavy metal reinforcement inside specific high stress parts of all single hung and double hung windows.
Most all vinyl windows by other manufacturers have ZERO metal reinforcement. Because of no metal reinforcement, many vinyl windows will droop at the center bar. It is such a common problem that the window industry has come up with a name for it – “Smiling”. The unreinforced center bar droops in the middle, giving a look similar to the “Amazon smile” trademark. Then rainwater can make its way between the top glass and the center bar. If the insulated glass sits in water for extended periods of time, the dessicant (which is located inside the spacer that separates the inside glass from the outside glass) can absorb that rainwater and allow it to get into the airspace, eventually causing the insulated glass to fail and fog up permanently.
Extra thick “double strength glass” inside and out.
NT’s actual glass thickness is 3.2 millimeters thick on the interior of your home and on the exterior, versus almost all others at 2.5 mm thick, called “single strength glass”. NT window glass has a 5/8” spacer between the two panes of glass, giving an overall thickness of 7/8 of an inch, in total. Almost everyone else uses the thinnest glass available – 2.5 mm single strength – inside and out. Others’ spacer between the glass typically range from ¼ to 5/8 inch.

Thicker Vinyl Frames
NT’s frames are one of the thickest vinyl window frames in the East Texas market – 75/1000ths of an inch compared to most others at about 60/1000ths thick. That is 25% thicker vinyl walls than 60/1000ths. Critical, because vinyl is super energy efficient but it is not very strong. That is why you need thick vinyl – for durability for the long haul. YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS: VINYL IS SUPER EFFICIENT BUT IT IS NOT A STRONG MATERIAL – THAT IS WHY IT IS SO CRITICAL TO USE THICK, STRONG VINYL AND TO REINFORCE IT WITH HEAVY METAL, not just a little flat piece of metal.
We are already replacing vinyl windows made by other companies who took a cost cutting shortcut and used a thin vinyl frame without heavy metal reinforcement. Vinyl windows in homes 7 to 10 years old. It is an absolute tragedy that these homeowners are having to pay to replace windows that should have lasted a lifetime. What about that lifetime warranty their cheaper windows had? Oh, that is not covered under the warranty, or their contractor is now selling another window and he told them to just call the factory.
Additionally, NT frames are 3 ¼” thick inside to outside – many others are only about 2 ¾” thick – just another reason that NT windows exceed the performance of other brands.
Non metal spacers as standard
NT is one of the few manufacturers of windows being sold in East Texas, who uses a NON METAL insulated glass spacer as standard. Most companies use a metal spacer, either aluminum or steel. From 2005-2008, we used windows with the most popular metal spacer system, and we had so many seal failures, that we HAD to find something better. That was when we found NT Window and their non metal spacer called “Superspacer” – in 2008, and we have been with them ever since. In certain specific cases, NT will use a high quality stainless steel spacer system with bent corners (actually a good thing), called XL, which is the only metal spacer system that we trust.

Concealed Stainless Steel Lifting System (or “Balances”)
There are primarily 3 types of balances or lifting systems being used on vinyl windows sold in East Texas. The least common is the old corkscrew spring, like the aluminum windows from the 1980’s and 1990’s used. Not a great system as you probably already know – if you have aluminum windows.
The 2nd type of balance we see out there is the block and tackle type – definitely an improvement over the corkscrew type, but with an Achilles Heel all its on. A nylon like string material works in conjunction with a pulley and springs to help lift the operating sash of these windows. Seems like the pulleys and springs are ok, but we have seen the string become brittle after only 7 years or so of being in the house – and without much use on the window at all. This string can pop from the brittleness, and the pulleys and springs can be released and fall out, making the balance completely unusable and the window pretty much inoperable.
NT Windows use the third type, a stainless steel coiled spring that lets out and rolls back in of its own power. The stainless steel coil is very strong and will not corrode under normal conditions. Different weight capacities of these coiled stainless springs are used on different size windows. In 12 years of use, we have not seen even 1 of them fail.
Fusion welding is a standard feature on all NT vinyl windows and almost all other vinyl windows.
There is one window contractor selling windows around here, whose salesmen make a big deal about the fact that their windows are “all fusion welded”, as if only their windows are. NT windows are all fusion welded and we don’t know of anyone selling vinyl windows in East Texas that are not fusion welded. Is that what they call sales talk? There IS a reason we do not use salesmen.
Some window contractors also make a huge deal about American made windows – we are not aware of anyone selling a foreign made vinyl window anywhere in East Texas – and we study our competition. Our NT windows are made in Texas, using all American made parts, whereas many other windows being sold in East Texas are made in Ohio, North Carolina or Iowa. Which state’s economy do you prefer to support?

Don’t get me started on cars driving over windows like you see on TV…splinters of wood coming out from under the “competitor’s window” – (vinyl windows have no wood in them! ) as the car drives over the glass of that window, breaking the glass. And then the car drives over the FRAME of the other window, carefully avoiding the glass. Look closely at these details the next time that ad comes on TV. It is easy to see. We do not practice deceptive advertising.

There are several more features of NT Windows which are better than the comparable features of many other vinyl windows. We will be happy to point those out when we meet.
